"Little Dove are a relatively new duo from Los Angeles, California, consisting of just Vanja James on guitar/vocals and Dylan Cooper on percussion. I refrain from using the word 'drums' as this is no conventional sticksman we're talking about here; rather, Dylan uses what is, effectively, a homemade kit. And it's been captured in all its expedient glory with a distinctly unpretentious, lo-fi production on their eponymously titled debut album. Likewise for Vanja's fuzzily distorted guitar. Thus, the backbone of their music, while minimalist in constitution, production and overall sound, and indubitably an antithesis to the over-produced, clinical sonics of a modern-day Pro Tools polish, is actually a refreshing blast of organically conceived and executed music. Where the album genuinely shines, though, is in Vanja's remarkably powerful voice." - Mark Homes, Metal Discovery UK

"Over-all an impressive debut and with a proper recording contract and money pushed their way, god only knows what they could produce if this is anything to go by. " - Music Mafia UK

"Get rid of any mental ideas that Little Dove are a twee folk band destined for Radio 1's Breakfast Show. Your frontal lobe could not be further from the truth. This rocking female-fronted getup are an awesome grungy, glitchy heavy rock group underpinned by a trashy home-made drumkit." - Never Enough Notes UK

"Pounding straight into 'Eyes' Little Dove show a statement of intent to hammer you with the kind of songs the white stripes used to write before they went all arty and English? towards the end. Not that Little Dove are mere stripes copyists, vocalist Vanja James has a broader vocal range giving every song a huge epic feel while still retaining a basic blues stomp blueprint. Throughout the 11 tracks on this self-titled self-released album there isn't a dud, recent single 'Sink Ships' is easily a highlight showcasing the band at their most stripped back. Little Dove are just one of numerous new bands showing that you don't need major label backing to create some noise, you just need some cracking tunes and to put the effort in. Brilliant brilliant stuff." - Stuart Brenton, Happy Days Music UK
LIVE at Casbah 10/3/17
Originating in Los Angeles, Little Dove played their first show on April 7, 2013 at the Viper Room with frontwoman Vanja James and drummer Dylan Cooper.
Recording their first album LIVE in a single day, the band released their debut record a mere two weeks later. That album was selected by Nic Harcourt as a featured artist for his radio show, and was played in 6 major US cities, as well as garnering airplay in the UK and France.
In 2016, the opening track from that debut album, "Misery" - was featured on Season 6, Episode 9 of the HBO TV show Shameless.
Vanja relocated to her hometown of San Diego in early 2016, and kept the band going with a different lineup, featuring Kyle Areford on Bass, and Ryan Lee Schilawski on drums. Most unique to the band's live lineup is their two left-handed players: Vanja on left-handed guitar and vocals, and Kyle on left-handed bass.
In January of 2016 the band began constructing their own small recording studio - it was completed in spring of 2017, and Vanja set out to learn pro-tools for the purpose of being able to self record and produce the band's sophomore release. Most currently special guest drummers and touring drummers have included Chris Dimas (Bleeker), Matt Tecu (Cat Power), and Damon De La Paz (Vandals/Fenix TX/Blink 182). Little Dove's approach to making this record falls in the footsteps of bands like Pigface - with different special guests appearing on each track.
Little Dove's sophomore album is expected to be released in the Fall of 2018.
